Having the best study routine is crucial for the success of our studies. Many of us, including myself, like studying just before exams, but this method doesn’t help with truly mastering the material. Your study routine should be joyful, not stressful. Here are some tips to help you improve your study routine:
1. Study repeatedly
As I said earlier, cramming is not a good way to study. As course readings pile up, it can be tempting to fall behind and reassure yourself that you'll catch up by cramming a few days before the exam. Cramming may help you pass the exam, but it doesn’t help with long-term retention.
2. Have a study plan
According to Summer Howard, having a study plan with set goals can help you feel more prepared and give you a roadmap to follow. Set a study plan and stick to it.
3.Ask for help if needed.
When you're working on difficult subjects, there’s no point in spending too much time stuck. The earlier you ask for help, the better because the longer you wait, the harder it is to catch up.
3. Find your learning style
It takes some time to find the right learning style, but once you find it, you're all set. Here is some advice from Schwab:
Before starting a new chapter or lecture, review what you already know about the topic and what you expect to learn.
As you read or listen, take notes on new information, related topics, or questions that come to mind.
Afterward, summarize what you’ve learned and look for answers to any remaining questions.
If you want to make your study routine enjoyable, these tips can help you get rid of the stress, nail your tests, and improve your long-term retention.
