A Day in Music

I listen to music constantly, and I know a lot of it. Through lyrics or melody, there’s a song for everything. In my daily life, there are several songs that can define parts of my day.
Waking Up: “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars
“Today I don’t feel like doing anything.” The relaxing guitar and nonchalant lyrics give an amazing, sunny tone to begin my day. It usually takes me a solid… two hours to get up and go because I’m just relaxing and thinking about the day ahead and what I should do but probably won’t.

Getting Breakfast: “Eat It” by Weird Al Yankovic
“Eat It” is a very silly parody of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” that’s quite literally about eating food. I don’t usually eat a lot for breakfast just because I often don’t have a lot of time (see above for why) for eating, plus I often don’t feel hungry in the morning, but I know I have to get something before school.

School: “Dining Room” by Presence of Music(?)
This song is from RPGMaker, which is a platform that people can use to create games. I’ve heard it in a game called Ib, and it’s a very calm piano melody, which I find could be very relaxing and nice to study to.

Games with Dad: “All I Do Is Win” by DJ Khaled
Oh, how I wish this were true. Nearly everyday, I play a game of Cribbage or 10,000 or Nertz with my father, and I’d say I win often: probably around 45% of the time (I know, I’m good).

Work: “Lights, Camera, Action” by Kylie Minogue
I work at a sort of modern cocktail bar with a few bowling lanes attached. It’s very fun and active, and we get a live DJ every Friday and Saturday! It gets very very lively, and I have to fall into the music and action to keep up, which is fun and tiring and kinda everything at once. This song encompasses that feeling: going out, getting into the action, and having a good time.

Calling My Boyfriend: “Happy” by Meg and Dia
After a long day of school, working, and social interaction, I can finally return to my room and call my long-distance boyfriend to talk about our days and enjoy the night. The song has a very soft-rock and pop rhythm and the lyrics are about after a time of struggle, the singer is finally happy, stable, and content; she’s ready to pursue a relationship.
