Studying is something most students don’t enjoy doing. Sometimes finding the best way to study and retain the information you’re studying can be part of the battle. Here are 4 study tips from current college students that you may like to try.

1. When I sit down to study, I have a hard time digesting large amounts of information and being able to remember everything. A study tip that I was given by a professor of mine and I have used this technique since returning back to school and it has helped me a ton. I will sit down and study a chapter worth of information for about 45 minutes and then I will get up walk around and stretch, give myself and my brain a quick little break before I go back and quiz myself over that same information. Any information that I did not remember I will throw in with the next chapter of information that I need to study, and I will do this over and over until I feel confident in myself that I can remember what I have studied. I will usually go back through all the information at the end and quiz myself to see just how much I remember and check to see if I need to go back through these steps again. -Kaylin

2. As I study, I like to have peace and quiet, it needs to be completely silent when I need to study. I like to focus on what’s in front of me with zero distractions. I also make sure to keep my phone out of sight or on ‘Do Not Disturb’ to make sure I don’t become sidetracked. By having silence, I can completely zone in on my notes that I need to review to study properly. It also helps retain information better for me as well. Instead of being in a loud area or having people talking, it is more difficult for me to stay on track. This is my best tip to help focus during studying! - Hailey

3. For me it's hard to start studying, I think about other stuff that I would rather do instead. Therefore, I like to romanticize my studies, so it becomes something that can be more fun. I have a hard time focusing on my room, cause then I find other things that interest me more. Therefore, I like to go to a place where it is calm and cozy. Like a cafe or a library. I also make sure to bring everything I need, like different pencils in different colors, writings pad, maybe a snack that I can enjoy while I'm studying. Romanticizing in this way improves my studies. - Emily

4. To study effectively I need to have the perfect setup. First is my noise canceling headphones with some calm music on. Listening to music allows me to focus and associate songs with certain material I am studying. Second, I need comfort. I like

to throw on a cozy outfit so there are no distractions. Third is my actual setup. I like to have everything I need within arm’s reach, so I don’t have to leave the zone I’m in. Pens, notebooks, charged laptop, books, water, and maybe a little snack to treat myself to. If the weather permits, I’ll have the windows open with the sunlight coming in. I cater my studying time to my needs and what works for me. Studying sucks but diminishing the negative connotations around it helps greatly. -Kaitcha
